Apia, Samoa – The 34th Teuila Festival officially opened this morning, with Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata’afa delivering the keynote address. The festival, a highlight of Samoa’s cultural calendar, celebrates the nation’s rich heritage while promoting environmental sustainability.

In her address, Prime Minister Fiame reflected on the essential role the Teuila Festival plays in safeguarding Samoan traditions and in bringing together Samoans, both within the country and abroad.

“The Teuila Festival continues to play a crucial role in fostering a deep connection between our people and their cultural roots,” she stated.

This year’s festival includes three cultural dance groups from overseas, bringing Samoans together from all over the world.

The theme for the 2024 festival is “Enrich our Environment, Embrace our Culture.” The festival has implemented a plastic-free policy, with water refilling stations set up to minimize plastic waste. Food vendors have been directed to use only biodegradable materials.
