The village of Siumu in Samoa has announced plans to bestow a paramount Matai title on King Charles during his upcoming visit. After deliberations, the village council, led by Mayor Tofaeono Kitiona, confirmed they are considering two prestigious titles: To’aiga o Tumua and Asomua le Malama.
Village preparations are underway, with the ceremony hoped to take place before King Charles’ arrival for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2024.
King Charles, along with Queen Camilla, is scheduled to visit both Australia and Samoa in October, as confirmed by Buckingham Palace. The royal couple is expected to arrive before 21st October for the CHOGM summit in Samoa.
According to Buckingham Palace, the visit is part of King Charles’ ongoing engagement with Commonwealth nations, focusing on building relationships with countries like Samoa, which plays an important role in the Pacific region.
