A Sa’ofa’i ceremony was held early this morning (Wednesday, 18th September) at Faleapuna village to bestow the kingly title ‘Fonotī’ on Leniu Taliulu Vainiu Te’o of Vaivase Tai and Laulii. The title, conferred by the Fonotī āiga potopoto recognises his family’s lineage.
Fonotī Leniu’s connection to Faleapuna is through his mother, Eseese Fonoti, whose father was Fonotī Vainiu. Over the years, Fonotī Leniu has served both his families in Laulii and Faleapuna, continuing his responsibilities even after his mother’s passing.

The Sa’ofa’i was packed with family members and supporters from overseas and both sides of the family in Samoa. The ceremony proceeded smoothly, according to plan. Present to witness the occasion were Fonotī Leniu’s wife, Peta Mamea Te’o, his daughter Lisa, and all his siblings: Taito Pule Carol Te’o, Aumua Toafa McCarthy, Fanene Tuatagaloa To’a Moke, Lilomaiava To’o Te’o, and Bishop Milo Moke.
