CTV Media has officially received accreditation to cover the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2024 in Samoa, which will take place from 21st to 26th October. This recognition positions CTV Media as the only Samoan bilingual media outlet from Australia selected to report on the event.
Pulotu, owner of CTV Media, shared his enthusiasm for the upcoming summit. “I’m excited and looking forward to joining the international media team to report on the various outcomes and meetings of Commonwealth leaders. The chance to cover issues that directly affect our people in the Pacific is invaluable. This will be an unforgettable experience for CTV Media Australia, and I’m truly honoured to be part of CHOGM for the first time.”
CHOGM is a biennial summit where the leaders of Commonwealth nations gather to address pressing global challenges. The meeting is hosted by a different member country on a rotating basis, with the most recent summit held in Rwanda in 2022. This year’s theme, ‘One Resilient Common Future: Transforming our Common Wealth,’ focuses on building resilience, promoting trade, and innovation, while empowering the Commonwealth’s youth for a more connected and sustainable future.
As the first CHOGM to be hosted in a Pacific Small Island Developing State, Samoa’s preparations have been meticulous. Four years of planning have gone into ensuring that the nation is ready to host global leaders, including King Charles. Businesses have stockpiled supplies, villages have been decorated with flags and colours representing various Commonwealth countries, and communities have worked tirelessly to create a welcoming environment.
CHOGM 2024 is set to build on the progress made during the 2022 summit, with a focus on finding collective solutions to economic, environmental, and security challenges. Leaders will deliberate on ways to foster a more connected and sustainable future for all member countries, with particular attention to the Pacific region’s unique challenges.
The timing of CHOGM 2024 coincides with Samoa’s White Sunday celebrations, or Lotu Tamaiti, a holiday dedicated to celebrating children, where families come together to honour their fānau. This festive atmosphere has added to the country’s preparations as it readies itself for the arrival of international dignitaries and media.
As part of the accredited international media team, CTV Media will provide in-depth coverage and insights into the outcomes of the summit, bringing the stories back to both local and international audiences.
